Fairy gorgeous clothing

If Cinderella had a closet, it would probably look a lot like So Chic boutique. (Bestowed upon her by her fairy godmother, of course.) Imagine a room with crystal delicately falling from the ceiling, softly painted walls silhouetted with flowers, and beautifully adorned dresses in yummy fabrics hanging throughout. Owner Didem Arici of Branford set out to, “create an environment where people would come and feel special. The first thing in retail is to make the client happy and feel comfortable.” Originally from Turkey, Arici moved to the United States 10 years ago and worked as a visual merchandiser for several large retailers. With a professional background in landscape architecture, it was her creative eye that guided the eye-catching displays of local Lord & Taylor, IKEA, and Sears stores. After many years of providing expertise to others, it was a dream come true to open her very own boutique. “I wanted to create a space that combined my interior design skills with my love of fashion.” The store’s name is truly a reflection of Arici’s own elegant, personal style. In fact, the words, “So Chic,” expresses her love of fashion that it was a natural fit for the name of her new business. She believes that while women can dress casually for comfort, their clothing and accessories can still be interesting and beautiful. “I wanted to bring a different concept to the Shoreline and offer women of any age unique, sophisticated, comfortable clothing with affordable prices.” Arici buys a substantial amount of her merchandise from L.A., which is currently enjoying a burgeoning fashion market with a talented group of designers now calling it home. Arici carries apparel from the West Coast to offer her customers’ distinctive clothing not readily found on the Shoreline. So Chic offers a mixture of junior fashion forward to more classic styles (but never boring) - something for every customer. Arici describes her shop’s style as “classic with a kick.” Walking through the store, she displays several tailored dresses with classic cinched waistlines and A-line skirts each having a “kick” of vibrant color, embellishments of lace, crochet or cutouts. She says her clothing is not overly trendy, but distinctive, with out-of-the ordinary pieces. Arici deliberately tries on her apparel to accurately describe the fit to customers which is very important. “I always tell a client to please take clothing into the dressing room because it doesn’t matter about the size. It’s the cut, the material and the style of the outfit.” Aside from casual wear and short dresses, customers will find a wide array of festive gowns for formal occasions. Affordability is a key factor for Arici, because many customers, especially teens attending numerous dressy events, tend to wear a gown only one time. Comfort is important as well because, “Formal wear can be stylish and still feel good.” Beading, silk and chiffon top the list of popularity this season, and Arici sees bright, dramatic color as a first choice, especially for spring formals.
