Textile store popping up
Amber Coppings, creator of Xmittens, a fingerless glove and recycled fleece line, is opening a studio pop-up shop at 5258 Butler St., Lawrenceville, from noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 16. There will be vintage clothing and home-decor pieces, as well as craft supplies, gift wrap and hand-dyed textile art designed by Coppings. The shop will be open varying hours through Dec. 23. Attend a design-your-own Xmittens gift set event on Dec. 14 to 15 and a solstice sale on Dec. 21 and 22. Details: www.xmittens.net

In Style with Children's, a fall fashion show and shopping event, benefits The Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation Family Life Auxiliary. The event is from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at Omni William Penn Hotel, Downtown. The show will feature boys and girls clothing from YoBro and Miss Priss, handbags from Sandra Cadavid, shoes by Emy Mack and womens clothing by Kiya Tomlin Designs and a mens collection from J. Dawn Redman, a student in the bachelor of science in Fashion Design Program at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, is one of 20 finalists in the Cool vs. Cruel Fashion Design Competition. The contest, sponsored by The Humane Society of the United States, challenges students to creatively interpret and replace animal fur on runway designs by Diane von Furstenberg, Tom Ford, Derek Lam or Moncler. Walk the runway

Historical and contemporary fashions will be modeled by 130 local models who will present American Girl fashions.
