Bold Italian Jewelry Designs From The VicenzaOro Tradeshow

Silver jewelry For quality in fine jewelry design, you’d be hard-pressed to find anything better than what the Italians produce. It’s a combination of artistry and craftsmanship that is unparalleled in the world of jewelry making. It doesn’t matter if it’s hand- or machine-made or a combination of both. If it’s Italian, the general notion is that there’s an inherent level of quality in design and execution.
Silver jewelry However, all of that quality costs money. Despite its international reputation, recent years haven’t been kind to the Italian jewelry industry. A combination of the global economic downturn, the spike in the price of gold (gold jewelry is what the Italians are most known for) and the high cost of quality labor, has squeezed the industry.
Silver jewelry The recently concluded VicenzaOro Fall jewelry tradeshow may have marked a turning point for the industry. Approximately, 1,200 Italian and foreign brands from 30 countries presented a breadth of jewelry products to more than 18,000 buyers (10,879 from Italy and 7,160 from 111 other countries).
Silver jewelry Show officials were particularly excited about the “return” of some Italian retailers, seeing it as “an encouraging sign considering the much-desired end of the most critical phase of the recession.”
jewelry The show numbers coincide with data from the Italian government reporting second quarter growth for Italian jewelry exports, after two years of decline. Growth was recorded in terms of value (6%) and quantity (2.6%) over the same period of the previous year. Exports to the US, the world’s largest jewelry market, increased 12 percent in value in the second quarter.
“Among the industry players there is an atmosphere of moderate confidence,” show officials said.
Jewelry trade fairs are about selling and buying. But how each of the major shows do this differs with each event. For example, the recently concluded September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair , the world’s largest fine jewelry tradeshow, does this with sheer numbers and variety. It’s a place where you can find anything and everything related to jewelry and jewelry making in any amount possible, and can easily make purchases on the spot. At Baselworld in Switzerland, the world’s largest watch show (which also has jewelry), international glamour, product launches and technological innovations are on full display.
VicenzaOro serves as a showcase of beautiful objects that combine artistry, international fashion trends and technical knowhow. On this level, the show did not disappoint.
Among the standouts were Anna Maria Cammilli and Damiani.
Anna Maria Cammilli has a patented process for producing six colors of gold (including white, pink, orange and red) and these colors are unlike any I’ve ever seen. Their yellow gold is actually yellow. Their shades and tones can be either subtle or bold depending on their needs. There’s also a visual texture that is different. A simple folded slice of gold has for years served as a motif for complex designs that interpret flowers and fan-like images.
Luisa Rossi who works for the company said recent years have been difficult for the Italian jewelry industry but the brand has a broad base of clients throughout the world that has served as a hedge.
Damiani consistently brings a seemingly endless variety of designs to tradeshows. One of the more interesting items to me was its continued interpretation of the butterfly in materials and design. Its latest version can be worn as a pendant, a brooch or a ring. In addition, the delicate wings move. Finally, it is available in various combinations of colored gemstones, colored and white diamonds and colored gold.
The accompanying slideshow provides a selection of the jewelry that was on display at the tradeshow, September 7 – 11.
