watches CLIFFSIDE PARK - Cliffside Park firefighter, Cosmo Paris, 59, died Jan. 8 en route home from a call at 696 Anderson Ave., where he manned a post for 16 hours.
Cliffside Park firefighter of nearly 18 years, Cosmo Paris, 59, died Jan. 8 en route home from a call at 696 Anderson Ave.
In Paris's free time, he loved to build replica fire engines from recycled materials. The Cliffside Park Citizen featured him in an article back in October 2013.
swiss watches Paris was the first firefighter to die in the line of duty in the United States this year, according to the United States Fire Administration (USFA).
replica watches "Firefighter Paris responded to an activated alarm which created a hazard in the building necessitating fire officials to order a stand-by at the location for a fire watch. The fire watch duty extended 16 hours in sub-freezing temperatures," a spokesperson for the USFA said in a written statement.
high quality replica watches A short time later, Paris suffered an apparent heart attack while driving home from his assignment; he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at Holy Name Medical Center.
swiss replica watches aaa+ Paris served as a Cliffside Park volunteer fireman for nearly 18 years. By trade he was a plumbing and heating specialist, and he drove a tow truck part time.
swiss watches Councilwoman Dana Martinotti, who serves as liaison to the Volunteer Fire Department said, "On behalf of the Borough Council, I want to send my condolences to the family of fallen Firefighter Cosmo Paris. Mr. Paris spent the last hours of his life protecting the lives and property of our residents. The Borough owes Cosmo Paris a debt of gratitude; we will never forget his contribution to our community and the sacrifice he has made on behalf of our residents."
In a written statement, borough spokesman, William Maer, attributed the following to Mayor Gerald Calabrese: "I am saddened and upset about the loss of Cliffside Park Fireman Cosmo Paris. Mr. Paris died after helping to protect our residents during a lengthy fire incident. I commend his actions, not only yesterday, but as a member of the Cliffside Park Fire Department and as part of our community. I want to extend my condolences and best wishes from all the residents of Cliffside Park to Cosmo Paris family."
In addition to his longstanding service as a volunteer firefighter, Paris was known around town for his elaborate replica firetruck displays.
In his free time, he had somewhat of an obsession with building replica fire engines from recycled materials.
One of Paris' creations stands in the New Jersey Firefighters Museum in Boonton , and others have ridden the famous Ridgefield Park Fourth of July Parade route multiple times.
His creations always seemed to serve as an ice-breaker for Paris, who, he told the Cliffside Park Citizen in October 2013, "uses them to meet new people."
Paris was also steadfast in his commitment to giving back to the community.
"Whether I am serving as a firefighter or bringing joy through my creations, I believe in giving back," he told the Cliffside Park Citizen in October.
One of Paris' first creations was built in 2004. It stands atop a Ridgefield Park tow truck company on Emerson Street and continues to be decorated at Christmas time each year.
