Hi, my name is Jim DiDonato, and I’m the director of the Round Lake Area Library in northern Illinois. We started a Stitch ‘n Bitch club a few weeks ago, and we are getting a LOT of negative feedback from our patrons about the name. Several people have commented that they feel the word, “bitch” is inappropriate for children and places a bad light on our community. Our Board of Trustees was the group that approved adopting the Stitch ‘n Bitch branding. I am concerned that due to enough outpouring of dissent from our community, we may have to drop your name. I would greatly appreciate any information or guidance you can provide that will help us explain the group a bit better to our community. I do welcome a phone call so we can discuss this in more detail. You can reach me

I have already explained that Stitch ‘n Bitch is a knitting group, that the library chose that name based on the nationally best selling book series, that the series has been around since 2003, that there are over 900 groups around the country that use this name, that Stitch ‘n Bitch has a quality resale line, that the library is trying to provide an outlet for our residents interested in exploring or expanding on needlework, and to promote social interaction in our community over social networking sites in this group. I believe that the group concerned about the title of the program is focused on home education and is unaware of the broader acceptance of your successful program.
Thank you.
